When "Step by Step~" burst out of the speaker, even small kids would dance to the rhythm tapping on the floor. What's funny is there was not a single person around me who actually understood the meaning of the song more than 'step by step.' What's funnier is that the song was not as enjoyable all years later when I finally became to understand the meaning as once it was. When it comes to music you feel it, you don't understand it.
Like to "NKOTB", number five is a meaningful number to "Backstreet Boys" too. I don't understand why, but if you have a group of four people you need to seriously think about adding one to your group to succeed in the field of music.
I wish I coulda found a picture of 'BSB', but unfortunately every picture I tried upload wasn't acceptted by this damn blog. I hope you don't mind. Anyways, here's my pick, 'Postergirl.'
Many of us bump into pop songs at some point of our life and some of us pass by them while some of us get into them. Craig David was the one who helped me become familiar and close to pop. He has this soft and relaxing voice. Unlike many noisy and tiring songs, his songs commonly have special power so, just by listening, you will probably feel things getting bright and warm. He has brought out three albums, all of which are totally worth buying. Here my favorite.
The image I think of as I listen to this song is a rainy day with everything looking grey and I feel like crying except the fact that I can't.
Since I got you to listen to the gloomy song, I'd like to give you one more song. "Jonny" is the song about "peer violence." There is a boy always beaten up by his friends, but when he gets back home he doesn't have anyone to talk about it as his parents have their own issues. I love the sorrowful melody and can't help feeling down.
A trivia. He is English.

In this tune, "Ella, Ella, Ella, E E E under my umbrella" part has mysterious power that makes me hard to get it off of my head. Enjoy~
Bright black women seem more popular than those not just like the whiter a woman, the more popular she is in Korea.

(Ouu Ouu Ouu)
(Mmdouou..ooh)
(Ouuohh Ouuohhouuoh wouh)
(Mm..ah)
[Verse 1]
Want to but I can't help it.
I love the way it feels.
This got me stuck between my fantasy and what is real.
I need it when I want it.
I want it when I don't.
Tell myself I'd stop everyday,
Knowing that I won't
[Hook #1]
I've got a problem and I.. (don't know what to do about it)
Even if I did, I don't know if i would quit
But I doubt it. I'm,
Taken by the thought of it..(mmm mm)
And I know this much is true (mmmmm)
Baby, you have become my addiction.
I'm so strung out on you (mmmm)
I can barely move...but I like it,
[Chorus]
So, then it's all because of you (all because of you)
So, then it's all because of you (all because of you)
And it's all because of you (all because of you)
So, then it's all because...
Never get enough,
She's the sweetest drug. (Oowuuu)
[Verse 2]
Think of it every second,
I can't get nothing done.
Only concern is the next time, I'm 'gon get me some.
Know I should stay away from,
Cause it's no good for me.
I try and try but my obsession, won't let me leave.
[Hook #1]
I've got a problem and I (don't know what to do about it)
Even if I did I don't know if i would quit
But I doubt it. I'm,
Taken by the thought of it. (mmmm) (heeyh..)
And I know this much is true, (mmmm)
Baby, you have become my addiction.
I'm so strung out on you, (strung out on you..)
I can barely move...but I like it, (but I like it..)
[Chorus]
So, then it's all because of you (all because of you) (aey!)
So, then it's all because of you (all because of you)
And it's all because of you (all because of you)
So, then it's all because...
Never get enough (Never get enough..)
She's the sweetest drug.
[Hook #2]
Ain't no doubt.... (no doubt heayh)
So strung out. (Strung out heeayh)
Ain't no doubt....
So strung out. (heahheh!)
Over you,
Over you,(yooouuu)
Over you(yooouuu)...
[Harmonics]
(Mmouhh)
(Because of you)
(And it's all because of you)
(mm)
(Never get enough)
(She's the sweetest drug)
And I know this much is true (Truuuuue)
Baby, you (baby yoou you you you) have become my addiction (become my addiction)
I'm so strung out on you,
I can barely move...but I like it (and I like it..yeaheh..)
[Chorus]
So, then it's all because of you (aey!)(all because of you)
So, then it's all because of you (all because of you)
And it's all because of you (all because of you)
So, then it's all because...
Never get enough (Oooh never get enough)
She's the sweetest drug,
...She's the sweetest drug...
Today, we are gonna take a glimpse of the world of hip-hop. As I mentioned yesterday, I'm not a specialist nor am I to recommend my prefference to anyone. I think of myself as a typical music lover whose favorite songs are not far from the taste of many other typical people. Having said that, I believe that anyone who likes music has got to have listened to Eminem. It's not the matter of choice. If you like music, you just get to listen to songs like "Stan", "Without me", "Lose yourself", and "Mocking Bird."
Singing along to a hip-hop song is one of the effective ways to get a flexible tongue, and in that respect, Eminem is one of the best singers for English learners. Although he uses tons of four letter words, his pronounciation is cristal clear and his songs usually have many useful expressions, which you may want to use.
He is distinctive from many other rappers. As you may have noticed, he is white in a predominantly black genre. It must have a huge pressure to him.
Suppose you are the only one in a group of 1000 black guys standing to sing what you are not supposed to sing. A white guy singing a hip-hop was thought as strange as a black guy doing rock. He was laughed at and outcast. In "8 miles" is the story of his unhappy youth. I don't know how close the movie is to his real life, but it was certain that he grew up in a not very good envirionment.
What I like about his music is that he has his story and his ability to create lyrics and break them down to rhyme is unbelievable.
If you visit my blog, you will get a chance to know what my favorite tunes are. Not interested? I don't care. Just get out.
Do you want some more? Take this.
Go away if you don't like music. Do so if you don't like my taste. But, it is ok if you have your own opinion. Just tell me what it is. I've been listening to American pop songs for about an year, so I'm not a newby but I'm not knowledgeable either. Genres don't matter to me. Hip-hop, rock, RnB, Country, and whatever may be of my interest as long as they are good music. I don't do research on who sings well or who is the best in their field but just go one website to another or one blog to another to take a listen to the songs recommended by people who have experienced whole lot more than me. That way, you get to bump into singers who you never see on the billboard. There are some good stuff on the billboard, but many of the songs are about sex, bootty, ass, etc. Ok, enough for that.
Today, I want you visitors to meet Jason Mraz(or, Mr. A to Z). It's hard to pinpoint his music with a sentence. What I like of his music is that songs like 'the remedy' or 'clockwatching' cheer me up when I'm tired. Listening is believing. Let's take a listen first.
How is it?
In case, you want lyrics, here is the link. The rythm is light and bright and speedy pace always makes me tap my foot.
Oh, I missed one. "Curbside prophet" is one of my favorites among his songs. One more thing I like about his music is that he is a singer-songwriter. In one of his songs, he tells how he became a singer. If I'm not wrong, he started singing in his college days, and he won an award at a competition, which led him to release his first album. The story sounds like a typical cinderella story, but it gives us hope that an ordinary person can suceed.
He's got three albums released so far and I strongly recommend you get both if you liked the song above. That's it for today, and I'll come back with more entertainable stuff next time. Don't ever hesitate to share your favorite songs with us. Just post them up or leave a comment. Seeya~
I think this class is going to be great. There are plenty of enjoyable things. Looking at the syllabus, I found that it was full of things like watching movies, TV series, listening to music, etc. Sean says we are not going to just watch or listen, but learn how to use them to improve our English.
He also talked about the focus which we are going to write things based on. I have two things that I'm interested in. Music, TV shows, Movies are one thing, and current issues relating pollution, poverty, war, health, and so on is the other. Maybe, I will write and post articles about both.
About the physical environment, I love this class. There is built-in air conditioning system as well as two other air conditional. It almost feels like I am sitting in a refrigerator. It feels so good.
Right now, Sean is teaching how to efficiently use the blog, how to use tag, how to make a link, how to spell check, etc. This first entry might look unorganized, so you might feel confused what I am talking about. But I tell you that it will get better as the semester goes on. I'll be talking about what I like after this entry.
